Norad Spam Control

An optional service of Norad email is spam control using Norad’s product, Spam1020. All incoming email is examined to determine if it is indeed spam. The advantage of Spam1020 is that the scanning is done at the mail server, not on your PC. This eliminates the transmission of unwanted emails from being transmitted to your PC, thereby freeing up bandwidth and disk space.

Spam1020 scans email for spam. Each email is passed through a number of tests to determine if it is spam or not. In addition, the sender of the email is checked against a white list, which includes addresses from emails that are on the user’s address book. White lists may also be created by the user. Emails are either deemed not spam, possible spam or definitely spam.

There are two options available for Spam1020:

Auto White List: When an E-mail is received, Norad Spam1020 will check to see if the sender is listed in the individual recipient's web messaging address book. If so, the E-mail will auto-matically be white listed. This feature can help reduce false positives. Auto white lists are maintained for each individual user, such as “me@mydomian.com.”

Custom White List: If you need to white list mail by the entire domain such as “@mydomain.com,” you can do so, based on the IP address, the return address, or text that appears within the E-mail. Custom White listing requires great care in setting up the white lists because it is very powerful. The average user should not use this
